Live/Tracking Room

The studio walls are lined floor to ceiling with individual overlapping cedar planks and the ceiling with acoustic tiles. A wooden room brings out the best in a drum kit and for that matter most instruments, it's the reason high end drum rooms are built with it. These unique designs not only make for a great sounding room, but they alleviate the need for placing foam baffles and diffusers everywhere.
Smooth parallel walls create standing sound waves that makes getting and recording a great sound difficult. The best mics and preamps in the world won't help a bad sounding room. The room contributes HUGELY to the sound and using sound absorbing materials all over it destroys that. The tracking room has a nice live feel to it without being overly reverberant, something that comes in handy during mixing. It's actually pretty simple; the better the room sounds, the better the recordings will.
